We have all been fascinated with the insects and mini beasts that visit our outdoor space. The children are always curious and excited to find worms in the mud, wood lice under the logs, spiders in the plants and even a millipede in the bark.
Our bug hunts, magnifying glass in hand, are great for building strength, risk assessing, seeking help and using descriptive language, finding and sharing information, drawing or making representations of the creatures, caring for the natural world and of course resilience when we are disappointed.
Today we found an elephant in the bamboo! Ok, it was an elephant hawk moth but it caused just as much excitement!
It was so beautiful and unusual that we used the internet to discover its name and why it was green and pink! We took a photo so that we could look more closely without frightening it away.
We wonder who else might visit?
